Named in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Sam “Sammy K” Kuchwara and his lasting commitment to the recovery community.
Since the early 1990s, Sammy K has mentored young men entering recovery. His service and commitment to easing suffering, especially among veterans, are the inspiration behind this dedication.
Among the men Sam mentored was Fellowship House co-founder Joe Van Wie. Sam became Joe’s sponsor in 1994, beginning a bond that grew into a lifelong friendship. For Joe, Sam became a father figure.
This forthcoming house carries that spirit of connection and practical support into Fellowship House’s next chapter.
Lackawanna County recognizes Sam’s service as a Veterans Court mentor and his role in bringing the Traveling Vietnam Wall to Nay Aug Park. His commitment to fellow veterans continues a lifetime of service.
